The ancient Egyptians made many contributions to the modern-day world. For example, the great pyramids. They created the gigantic pyramids that we know today. Inside most of the tombs, the Pharaohs would be buried and placed into a room in the center of the pyramids.
Engraved on the wall that the Pharaoh were buried in, they wrote in a language to tell what the Pharaoh did in their lifetime. This language showed us how they communicated. Hieroglyphs were used in Ancient Egypt and may have influenced some world languages we know today. Another contribution that the Egyptians made was the original census. This system was an official count of the population or number of people living in an area, and today in our own country we use this system, which has worked very well so far. Although we do not use this exact system in the United States of America, In the United Kingdom has monarchy as their government, which is sort of like what the Egyptians had. At one point they had dynasties that would continue for many many years, where the power was passed throughout the families. These two systems may not be exactly the same, but could definitely have been based off the Egyptian’s setup. The ancient Egyptians were very good astronomers of their time, as well. They could even predict solar and lunar eclipses. They knew about the movements of the plants and the stars, and even prepared a “calendar”. They divided the year into 360 days, they noticed they had to add 5 extra days to fit the seasons; those 5 days were known as holy days, days they would use to thank the gods. We made modifications to their calendar and made our modern day calendar. So as you can see, we’ve gotten multiple ideas from the ancient Egyptians, which have helped in lots of ways. |
