The people of ancient Egypt were polytheistic, which meant that they believed in many Gods; not just one. They would perform human sacrifices that showed them they were loyal. For instance, some gods they worshiped were Anubis (God of Embalming), Shu (God of Air), and Osiris (God of Death and Ruler of the Afterlife). The people also believed in religious ceremonies, such as: burials, sacrifices, and embalming.
Because of the people’s strong beliefs, their life was strongly influenced by these gods in many ways. They were completely loyal and believed that any event in the world was caused by the glorified Gods, whether it was good or bad (such as the wind, rain, or droughts).
The Egyptians were extremely religious. They believed that when you were buried, you needed to resemble the current life, so you would be welcomed into the underworld. This process was called mummification. They tried many times until they finally figured out the most efficient way to do this. Mummification is the process of wrapping the body in a silk cloth and then concealing them in multiple sarcophagi. This way, the dead bodies were ready to be transferred into the afterlife (mostly for pharaohs and nobles) and would be preserved longer. Sometimes their slaves were even buried with them for protection in the underworld.
